Credit cards have been known to be expensive when used overseas due to the high international charges associated with a purchase. Many credit card customers are unaware of the charges, or if they are aware they have no other alternative. Using a credit card when travelling can provide more insurance for the purchase in case something goes wrong.
Abbey is one credit card company consumers can apply for. Several UK consumers already have credit cards from Abbey. In a new deal they are offering their credit card consumers a waived fee for travelling outside of the country. Any international charges will be waived. This means a savings of 2 to 3 percent will be offered when spending money abroad.
This waived fee does not apply to cash withdrawals. It also does not apply to balance transfers. The fee is waived only for new purchases. It may not apply to introductory offers on purchases because you may already be getting 0 percent interest for a set time. The deal is mostly for existing Abbey consumers.
Those travelling inside the UK will not be able to take advantage of this offer; however there are no additional charges for using credit cards in your home country. It is a nice offer; however, it may not work for everyone.
Most of the time when making a purchase it is best to use money that you already have on hand to avoid the credit card interest rates. The deal of waived fees does not waive the annual percentage rate accrued on the card. It simply means the additional charges you normally face are not tacked on to the amount you have spent.
Abbey is not the only credit card company offering new deals to their consumers because many companies want to increase spending to help re- inflate the economy.
