Egg is a good all round credit card with lots of nice feature. Now, i’m not sayiny that they have anything particularly new, but then who does these days anyway? There is nothing more that these credit card companies can offer us other than lower interest rates and more rewards; so Egg joins the credit card race and becomes a major player…

Egg can offer just about what the other big boys can. They compare quite well to Barclaycard when it comes to balance transfers. Egg offer 0% on your balance transfers until May 2011, which is just about the same amount of time as the Barclaycard Platinum card. They also charge around the same fee for balance transfers too which is 3% (again close to Barclaycard that off 2.5 – 3% on various cards).

However, they do offer something that the big Barclaycard boys don’t at the moment, and that is 0% interest on purchase until June 2010. Now, be careful here because that’s only a couple of months away so you’re not going to save that much. It’s alright if you’re going away on holiday and you can pay it all back by the end of May, but if not it’s not really going to be worth your while spending too much. It is placed there to tempt you to

Transfer the balance of your credit card

Persuade you to spend more on your credit card

So you always need to be vigilant about these offers, they’re not for your benefit and never will be.

Egg’s interest rate is a steady 16.9% at all other times, so it pretty much fits in with the modern approach to credit at the moment. They also offer cashback shopping, discounts on your shopping, and also discounts on travel.

Go ahead and take a look.

There are loads of credit cards out there offering great deals on balance transfers. They’ll tell you that it’s 0% interest for 6 months on your balance transfers or something very similar to this. Well don’t always be fooled by this, there is something else to consider…

You need to consider that after this 6 months honeymoon period (as i like to call it) you will attract the lender’s original interest rate. So this is something you need to consider even if you are only trying to buy a little time by transferring your balance; this is what they look for. Some credit card companies prey on people who can’t manage their money too well.

Now i’m not sure what the regular interest rate is at the moment, but there is usually an average. I won’t go into it now or even look it up because you could be reading this post in the future sometime and the rate will be different. And the word “average” is average because they is something lower and something higher than it. This is what you need to look at. If you can find a lower interest rate you certainly need to consider it, but pay special attention to what other benefits the card will offer; there is no point in getting a card because it has a low interest rate alone. And if you find a card with a higher interest rate, then you’ll know that the benefits on this one have to be very good indeed to make you want to pay over the average. Consider what you doing when you compare prices.
